How to Handle a Detangling Nightmare!!!!

Last week I had the bright idea to wash my hair in my kitchen sink. WHYYYY?!?!? I washed my hair in two sections using my creamy aloe shampoo from ORS. (I only shampoo wash my hair once a month to get rid of any build up) I followed that up with my Aphogee two minute reconstructor. I have not used this in over a month. I felt my hair was getting way to hard in January. I was using a lot of protein so I decided to take a protein break. Since it has been over a month I felt it was time to work protein back into my regimen. I followed the Aphogee up with my deep conditioner. I thought everything was going good. I left my conditioner on for a couple of hours.

I again went to my sink to rinse out the conditioner. I let my hair dry for about 10 - 20 minutes then started the detangling process. I can normally detangle my hair in about 10 minutes. But as soon as I started I knew something was WRONG. My hair felt matted where my texlaxed hair meets my bone straight hair. I was so afraid that I was going to have to cut my hair. It was just that bad! I added more of my leave in conditioners. Yes, I said conditioners. I used both my thick, creamy Cantu Shea Butter and my Aussie spray leave in.

I had to section my hair into 1-2 inch sections detangle then braid each section to keep it separate. Even though it was extremely matted my hair was really soft. So I know that my conditioner was not to blame. I only had myself to blame. I was being lazy and did not go through my usual steps. I started the whole process off wrong because I did not detangle my hair before I started to wash it. I had been wearing my hair in a braid out for the past week. So I had a lot of shed hairs that I should have removed first. Then to make matters worse I washed my hair in the sink. That caused me to wash my hair in a completely different direction than I normally do. The loose hairs couldn't come out as easily as it would have if my hair would have been washed all going backwards.

It took me over a hour to detangle my hair and I lost probably 6x what I normally loss detangling. I will from now on continue to wash my hair in the shower. I don't think this was a set back because I didn't really see a huge difference in my hair after deep conditioning today. Lucky for me I have really thick hair. The pictures on the left side show what I lost due to me being lazy. The pictures on the right side show how much hair I lost after detangling today, and that is about average for me.

Check-in Trim, Trim, Trim those Damaged Ends Away

I said a couple of weeks ago that I had been trimming away my thin ends, but I would put down the scissors well.... I picked them up again last week. I trimmed another half inch off I think. It needed to go so what can I say. I think it is because my ends got so dry while I was trying out a new moisturizer mix. Well needless to say I am not using it anymore.

Most people say you should start your hair journey with a good trim, but I just could not bring myself to do it then. When I started my hair journey my hair was the shortest it had ever been (about CBL) and I just couldn't imagine cutting anything off. So I have been trimming off a inch or half inch here and there since then. I do not have a problem with split ends (thankfully)  just thin, dry ends (which can lead to split ends). This is the result of over processing and multiple permanent dyes/ bleaching. I am happy that I have cut so much off. I probably have another 2 inches of hair that has been dyed/bleached to go, but what is left is not as bad.

I was grazing APL after my relaxer in January and my goal was to be full APL by my birthday in April. Since I've been trimming so much I am not sure where I am at now. I am 7 weeks post now so I am half way through my stretch. I will continue wearing buns everyday and only using indirect heat (when I am deep conditioning). I want nothing more than to be APL by my birthday. I would have never guessed it would take me this long to reach APL but it is what it is. I can't complain because my almost APL length hair now is so much better than my almost APL length hair when I started. I never understood why people said health over length before I started my hair journey, but now I am happy to be one of those ladies. Health over length any day, because with health comes length. No need to hold on to thin damaged ends just to say I'm at APL.

Did you all have to do a lot of trimming when you first started your health hair journey? Did you have the nerve to do a really good trim before starting your journey? Or were your ends pretty good when you started?

CVS Lipstick Haul

I went to CVS and did some major damage last week! Almost all of the make up was buy one get one 50% off and I had a $5 off coupon. I did purchase some other things besides lipsticks like concealer, mascara, and some liners but it was nothing special that I wanted to show. If you guys want to see everything just let me know and I can upload some more pictures.

L'oreal Paris Colour Riche Balm #418 Caring Coral $7.79.  This is a great everyday colour. It goes on like butter! I love how smooth it is.  It is not a lot of colour it goes on kind of sheer this would look good on any skin tone.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate #01 $4.79. This is a Matte lipstick. This is a pinkish/ nude colour. In the picture I did not have any liner on, but if I were to wear this out I would put on a brown liner first to make it look better on my skin tone.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate #7 $4.79. This is not Matte it is suppose to last up to 8 hours. I have not worn it out to see if it does hold up. This colour is similar to 101, but it has shine and more of a nude colour.

Milani #20 Uptown Mauve $5.29. This is my favorite colour that I purchased! It is a great purple/ pink tone. It goes on smooth, but I do wear chap stick under it because it can dry out your lips a little.

Wet n Wild mega shield lip color SPF 15 #369S Salsa Lessons $2.99. I am new to wearing lipsticks so I am not quite ready to jump into a red lip. This is my way of easing into it. This is bright orange with a hint of red. It has a lot of shine. Like all Wet n Wild lipsticks I do not like the packaging because you can hit the lipstick when taking the top off, but for the price I can't complain.

Wet n Wild Mega Shield lip color SPF 15 #370S Lolly Popstar $2.99. This is a pretty shimmery pink. I don't feel like I have to wear a liner with this pink it goes well with my skin tone.

Give-a-way time FINALLY

I posted a few Months (tiss tiss tiss shame on me for waiting so long) ago that I wanted to do a give-a-way, but I think I jumped the gun a little. I didn't even have 100 views on the blog yet. So now I want to follow through and go ahead with the give-a-way. I am celebrating 6 months into my hair journey, so I want to celebrate with you all! I will be giving away a length check t-shirt. I have not gotten one yet so I think its about that time. As much as I love ALL of my followers and those that come and check out my blog it would cost too much for me to ship the shirt overseas. So this will be open to those in the U.S.A. only.

The rules are:
  • You must be over 18 or have your parent's permission to enter
  • You must follow my blog
  • Comment on this post saying "enter me" and a topic you would like me to do a post on
The give-a-way will be open for 2 weeks. I will be doing a give-a-way on my YouTube channel when I reach 50 subscribers so look out for that too.

Stopping Dry Hair In Its Tracks

I have been dealing with really dry hair the past few weeks and I think I know the cause. About a month ago I purchased a new conditioner. I love the way it smells! Its like coconut in a bottle. I was hoping to be able to use it as a daily moisturizer. I added equal parts water and conditioner in a spray bottle, then added a teaspoon of coconut oil to it. After purchasing vegetable glycerin I added a teaspoon to the mixture. I've been using this mixture for about 3 weeks. To my disappointment it doesn't do anything for my hair except make it smell good.

I have been using Elasta QP olive oil & mango butter since September and it is a great moisturizer, but it can weigh my hair down. So I am still on the hunt for a light weight moisturizer to use when I wear my hair down straight or in a braid/twist out.

Using the Elasta QP will not be a problem for the next couple of months because I am on a hard core buns only mission.
